How often have we heard or used the words, “Let me be clear”?

Most times, the person using them wants someone hearing them to be clear about what is being said so that intentions are clear. We do this because we know that misunderstandings usually lead to problems. And we want to avoid that. It’s normal. It’s natural. It’s healthy, even, to want these things.

But what about the conversations that we have with ourselves? How clear are we being with ourselves when we have those conversations – something we in the counselling and coaching world call Internal Dialogue.

It doesn’t take us too long to realize that the conversations we have with ourselves can be as messy as two people having trouble understanding each other. Like a heated discussion, when our emotions run high, or we are feeling the pressure, or something like that, we are generally not having a great chat with ourselves.

At Clear Moment, we pay close attention to internal dialogue. We know it frames much of what we think and do. It impacts the choices we make. We believe that when a person is in the heat of working through challenging issues, having the experience of being not just listened to, but really heard, changes internal dialogue for the better. The good stuff we know is there doesn’t get pushed to the side so much. The tougher stuff that sometimes needs to said becomes easier to hear.

And that is a great move towards lasting hope and healing.
